Wonderful Wisley!

RHS Wisley is surely one of the most popular and enduring gardens in England. Easily accessible from the M25 and A3, this garden is less than an hour from central London.

Each visit to Wisley brings fresh excitement with superb year round planting and the splendour of the famous rockery is a real draw, with it’s small waterfalls running down to the stream. Steps lead to the summit which in turn takes the visitor towards the inspirational vegetable planting and alpine greenhouses, not to mention the marvellous bonsai display.  The wide herbaceous border, expansive rose garden, tropical glasshouse and woodland area mean there is something for every visitor to enjoy.

There really is so much to see at Wisley that you almost need an entire day and every season in which to enjoy each treasure that unfolds. EARLY SPRING

Our March visit was timed perfectly to enjoy the marvellous unfurling of the Magnolias, which will be in full bloom in the coming weeks.  In the woodland area, Camellias stopped us in our tracks to admire their blowsy blooms whilst the subtle fragrance of the Daphnes enticed us to take in their beautiful scent.  March is also the perfect time to view the Alpine houses, where truly amazing colour greets the visitor with some spectacular alpine species to enjoy.

A recent visit in February was timed to see the butterfly display in the glass house, and we shall visit again within the month to take in further spring colour.

STOPPING FOR REFRESHMENTS?

There is no need to seek out local tea rooms when at Wisley; with no less than three cafes to choose from, and our favourite has to be the main cafeteria and restaurant where truly delicious meals and snacks can be enjoyed at very reasonable prices.

It was good to take a quick browse around the very busy RHS gift shop before returning home; we were particularly impressed with the great choice of books in the gift shop, catering for all from gardening and of course garden visiting, to novels, travel books and books for children too, not to mention cards and a great gift selection.

RHS Wisley is a true gem in the heart of South East England.
